relaxing

This day ended relaxing out on the porch. Elena was so excited that she could climb up into the chair all by her independent little self. She absolutely hates it when you help her with anything lately. So stong willed. I can't imagine where she got that from... She insisted on going back in the house to find a couple of good books to read. Tucker was out too, though he never relaxes. He only finds happiness in running after his beloved Kong, over and over and over again. Of course that meant he needed water, and Elena loves water. The minute she saw that bowl of water she was off the chair and headed straight for it. Immediately she put her hands in the dirty, dog spitty, yucky water. She didn't care, and neither did I. I love watching how fascinated she is by all the little things that most of us don't even notice anymore. The birds, the clouds, airplanes flying across the sky. Having her has definitely changed my perspective on life. The things I thought were important before don't matter so much. I've realized even more that the simple things are what life is really about.

There's that smile again

memorial day

We recently had the annual Bass family Memorial Day picnic at Mom and Dad's house. It was a beautiful day, we couldn't have asked for better weather. I wasn't sure how Elena would feel about a houseful of strange people, I thought she might be shy and want to stay with mama. That really wasn't the case, she had no problem walking up to people and doing all the things she usually does. She had a great time playing with Sam and shared all of her toys with him. They had lots of fun outside too.

springtime

With the warm weather now here, it's time for playing outside all the time. Now that Elena is a pro at walking she absolutely loves being outside. It is, hands down, her favorite thing to do. Since she spends all day with Nana, she gets to be outside whenever she wants. She loves helping Nana in her garden, watching birds (and trying to catch them) and playing in the water. I'm looking forward to taking her to the pool when it gets a little warmer, she could spend hours in the tub playing and splashing.

Always happy, always smiling

Whenever I ask Elena to smile for the camera, this is what I usually get. Squished eyes and a wrinkled nose. Adorable.
